With their distinct styling and world-famous vocalizations, The Lettermen is a musical group that for the past 35-years has been entertaining music listeners across the world. With their smash hit "Goin' Out of My Head / Can't Take My Eyes Off You", it's hard to find someone who has not heard of this group. Recently The Lettermen released an album "Greatest Movie Hits" featuring their own special renditions of some of the best songs from film. The result is a mixed bag of hits and misses, but ultimately a satisfying album to listen to.

It comes as no surprise that the album begins with "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic. Their rendition is pretty interesting, with the signature Lettermen harmonizing - but they don't seem to have the emotion that Celine Dion had in her performance and it comes off a bit cold. However they quickly make up for that with "Take My Breath Away" and "The Glory of Love".

Most of the renditions presented on the album are quite well realized. "Against All Odds" has a different type of harmony than I would have expected, but it was a pleasant and welcome surprise. "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" and "Up Where We Belong" are enjoyable as well. Their a cappella version of "The Windmills of Your Mind" was impressive to say the least.

Some of the tracks just didn't grab me, though. Those included the aforementioned "My Heart Will Go On", "Music of Goodbye", "Unchained Melody" and "I Will Always Love You". It's not that they aren't performed well - they are. It's just that they didn't grab me as the other ones had.

Each of the three members get to do their own solos. "In My Life" features Donovan Tea; Tony Butala does a great job on "Days of Wine & Roses" and Darren Dowler's "Go The Distance" while not being the same as Michael Bolton's, is pretty darn good - he's renowned for his ability to imitate Bolton and it's really apparent listening to this track.

As a special bonus, "Valentine" is included on the album. I'll be honest when I say I can't recall if this was from a film or not - but I swear I've heard the song before. It's a heartfelt rendition, and proves that The Lettermen are indeed one of the best romantic singing groups in the business. Released through Pat Boone's Gold Label record label, "Greatest Movie Hits" would make a wonderful addition to your soft-rock collection and runs about 56 minutes long.
