Jean Prodromidès, the wonderful composer of Le Voyage en ballon, Blood and Roses and Danton, adapted some classical themes by Brahms for this French movie by Dominique Delouche, based on a novel by Stephan Zweig and set in the early 20th century: the drama of a mature woman (Danielle Darrieux) who desperately falls in love with a young inveterate gambler.
