The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 774 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy's membership in 2017. Among the composers, songwriters and music editors invited to the music branch are:

UPDATE: The Academy announced on June 29 that incumbent governor Charles Bernstein was reelected to the Academy Board representing the music branch. The Academy's 17 branches are each represented by three governors, who may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms. The Board of Governors sets the Academy's strategic vision, preserves the organization's financial health, and assures the fulfillment of its mission.
