Each year, The Sammy's recognize the best in film music.

Film music historian and Film Music Review editor  Roger Hall has announced his choices in these six categories:

Best Original Film Score
Best Original Song
Best Compilation
Best Vintage Score
Special Preservation Award
Lifetime Achievement for Movie Songwriters:  Jay Livingston and Ray Evans

This year for the first time, Hall has named a Special Preservation Award for the monumental 12 CD box set, ELMER BERNSTEIN’S FILM MUSIC COLLECTION with film scores by Max Steiner, Elmer Bernstein, Franz Waxman, Bernard Herrmann, Miklos Rozsa, Alfred Newman, Alex North and Dimitri Tiomkin, plus an illustrated 135 page book.

The Sammy Awards were named for the legendary Sammy Cahn, the most Oscar-nominated songwriter of all time—26 in total, between 1942 and 1973. The first Sammy Awards were chosen for Best Score and Song of 1988 in honor of Cahn's 75th birthday.
