The BSOSprit Society is proud to announce composer Roque Baños\' attendance at the Third International Film Music Conference in the City of Úbeda, Spain, from July 19-22, 2007. He will be joined by composers Bruce Broughton, David Arnold, John Powell, Javier Navarrete, Pascal Gaigne and John Debney.
One of Spain\'s most prolific film composers, Baños is an internationally recognized talent, with classical training from the Conservatory of Murcia, the Conservatory of Madrid, and the prestigious Berklee College of Music. It was there where he graduated Suma Cum Laude, and received the "Robert Share Award" for demonstrating the highest level of dramatic/musical creativity in the area of film scoring.
In Spain, Baños has worked on a number of blockbusters such as last year’s Alatriste, starring Vigo Mortensen, Goya en Burdeos from acclaimed filmmaker Carlos Saura, and both Torrentespy-comedies. He has received five Goya Award nominations for Best Original Score and one for Best Original Song, as well as Cinema Writers Circle Awards for Best Score.
He gained international recognition with his moody, Herrmannesque score to The Machinist, which received an honorable mention for the Best of 2005 by SoundtrackNet. Recently he scored the science fiction film The Kovak Box for director Daniel Monzón, and he\'s currently scoring The Oxford Murders, starring Elijah Wood and John Hurt, directed by long-time collaborator Álex de la Iglesia.
Baños will also take part in the symphonic concert at the conference, where the orchestra will play a suite from Alatriste, including selections previously unreleased on the soundtrack album. Additionally, at the conference he will debut the new soundtrack release to his latest project, Las Trece Rosas, being released on his own record label, Meliam Music, S.L.

The Third Annual International Film Music Conference will be celebrated in the City of Úbeda, Spain from July 19-22, 2007.
Organized by The BSOSpirit Society, it has the support of the City Hall of Úbeda and other sponsors. To this date, the symposium has become one of the most memorable gatherings for film music enthusiasts around the world.
As with the previous years, hundreds of fans, composers and journalists are expected to gather in Úbeda this summer to enjoy the many panel discussions scheduled, as well as the highlight symphonic concert of film music selections.
