Biography

John Beal made his first professional dollar as a soloist in a boys choir and his first nation-wide appearance on television playing drums in a band that appeared on Dick Clark'sTeen Scene USA and later performed with the Hollywood Bowl All-Stars Jazz Band.

Conductor/arranger on stage, on television and on recordings with such stars as Olivia Newton-John, B.B. King, Gladys Knight, Johnny Mathis. Conducting for the Emmy Award winning "Sing Out Sweet Land!" and supervision for music recording of over twenty television specials or mini-series, including Richard Bellis' Emmy Award winning score for "Stephen King's IT."

Student of world renowned percussionist and composer William Kraft, studies of Harry Partch with the world's foremost expert Danlee Mitchell, African Ethnomusicologist Craig Woodson, and composers Earl Hagen, Dominic Frontiere and George Duning.

John's first film was the comedy "Zero to Sixty," starring Joan Collins and Darren McGavin. John's television career includes such series as "Vega$", "Chicago Story," "Eight is Enough", "The Goodtime Girls", "Happy Days" and "Laverne & Shirley." In addition to "Zero to Sixty" his feature film credits include the title song for "Skatetown USA", original scores for "The Funhouse", "Terror In The Aisles", and "Killer Party", and additional music credits for "Under The Volcano", "From A Whisper To A Scream", "The Stone Boy", "Lookin' To Get Out", "Roar", "Defiance", "The Man With Bogart's Face", "Carpool," "Barney's Great Adventure: The Movie" and "The Death of Ocean Park".

In 1984, John created Reeltime Music Incorporated(tm), and has become the world's leading industry provider of original scores for theatrical and television trailers, including campaigns for such hit films as "Aladdin," "Black Rain," "Disturbing Behavior," '"Eraser," "Forrest Gump," "Ghost," "Hamlet," I Know What You Did Last Summer," "The Hunt For Red October," "In The Line Of Fire," "J.F.K.," "The Mask," "True Lies," and "The Mask of Zorro"

Other projects include music for the theme parks Disneyland, Enchanted Village and Walt Disney World, CDROM game music on Zork: Grand Inquisitor, and themes for Microsoft's MSN Internet Channels, compositions for Cineplex-Odeon, commercials for Sugar-Free Dr. Pepper, Royal Crown Cola, NASDAQ, Intel, Microsoft, MCI, Armour Star Bacon, Stratosphere Hotel and Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing.

John is an ASCAP composer and publisher and has served as a governor of the Composers Guild of America [now the Society of Composers & Lyricists] and two terms as a governor of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, with one term as an alternate national trustee and is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers, Recording Musicians Association, Film Music Network and the Professional Musicians Union.
