Randy Newman in Concert

After having a fantastic concert with Oscar®-winning composer Howard Shore this march in Lucerne, Switzerland, we’re proud and very honored to welcome another famous Oscar®-Winner: Randy Newman will be heard on December, 8th 2007 in one of Switzerlands most well-known concert halls, the KKL in Lucerne.

The 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has a huge passion for modern film music, as well as classical movie themes like the music of the Charlie Chaplin-movies. Consisting of more than 90 musicians – mostly young talents still studying music at the University – it is their passion and the particular interest in film music that makes this orchestra an interesting choice for extraordinary musical projects. A highlight has been the concert "Music of Howard Shore" last march 2007, with Howard Shore attending personally (and conducting the Suite of "the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring"). After this highlight, the orchestra took the challenge to perform the "Lord of the Rings"-Symphony on Mai 2007. Standing Ovations and pleasing critics were the result.

Now we are seeking for further events and we are very proud and honored to welcome Oscar®- and Grammy®-Winner Randy Newman for the next concert.

64-year old Randy Newman has already beeen a noticeable musical talent and an outstanding pianist in his early childhood. For the first time the broad public took note of Newman’s talent with his early songs, which have always been spiced up with ‘biting’ lyrics. Newman also offeres a quite clear political idea and understanding in his lyrics. For a long time Randy Newman kept himself away from Hollywood, until one of his first composition for a film – for Milos Forman\'s "Ragtime" – brought him his first Oscar®-Nomination. Since then, he is not only writing highly successful songs, but also entertaining and demanding film music. To date, he received 17 Oscar®-Nominations, whereby he could take two at home, as well as 12 Grammy Award®-Nominations. He just received the fourth Grammy Award® for his Song "Our Town" from Disney/Pixar’s® box office hit "Cars". His scores and songs for the Pixar®-flicks "Toy Story", "A Bug\'s Life", "Toy Story 2" and "Monster’s Inc." are among his best works and are marking a very successful and enduring collaboration. He just finished scoring George Clooney’s romantic comedy "Leatherheads" at the Sony Scoring Stage in Culver City, CA, and took the scoring assignment for the upcoming Walt Disney Feature Animation "The Princess and the Frog".
