Returning to our CD Club for our latest set of titles is the great Dave Grusin. A legendary pianist, and the composer of the many loved scores. Grusin's absence from the scoring stage has been one of the more lamentable aspects of modern film music.
For this special release we take a look back to an enchanting film and score from 1982. Grusin's pop-infused score is warm and inviting and features infectious melodies that are always eminently comfortable and easy to love. Dave Grusin suffered along with everyone else during the 1980s when it came to score album releases, and so we are particularly thrilled to present Author! Author!, just in time for a new DVD release of the film, coming in April.
Dave Grusin's score for Author! Author! was actually a rescore job, and as a very special bonus, we also present the unused original score for the film by none other than Johnny Mandel! Two legendary jazz composers both scoring the same film! Perfect casting for both of them, yet only Grusin's music has ever been heard. Mandel's is a darker take on the storya beautiful work, the very existence of which is a revelation. What a happy surprise, making this an even more exciting release!
