[Article - SCL Oscar Reception 2003]

As is tradition, the Society of Composers and Lyricists hosted a reception to honor the Academy Award nominees in the music categories. Last night (March 22, 2003), at the home of composer John Cavacas in Beverly Hills, the annual reception was attended by over 200 people, including composers, the press, Governors of the Academy, and others. While most of the nominees had RSVP'd, only five nominees made an appearance: Elliot Goldenthal (Frida, Best Score & Best Song), Elmer Bernstein (Far From Heaven), Thomas Newman (Road to Perdition), Philip Glass (The Hours), and Julie Taymor (Frida, Best Song).

After milling around for a bit and schmoozing, everyone gathered into the main area where SCL President Dan Foliart presented the nominees with a special certificate of recognition, and gift basket. Group photos were taken, and the nominees continued to mingle with the crowd.

Congratulations to the nominees, and Elliot Goldenthal, who won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for Frida!
