WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Songwriters Association of Washington (SAW) presents its 18th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC) sponsored by SAW, BMI, Oasis Duplication, Omega Recording Studios, TAXI, and Writer's Digest Books. SAW is a non-profit organization assisting songwriters in the Washington, D.C. area. SAW sponsors workshops and seminars featuring songwriters, musicians, producers and other music industry professionals.

The Mid-Atlantic Song Contest is a great vehicle for recognition of up-and-coming songwriters, with results printed in national, regional and local press as well as on the internet. There are a total of 10 categories of music including jazz, children's folk, country, adult contemporary and rap with prizes ranging from $1,000 in cash to gift certificates for CD mastering by Omega Studios, memberships in TAXI (an independent A&R vehicle), and a collection of books from Writer's Digest Books. In addition, all gold and silver winners from each of the 10 categories will be recorded on a Winners' CD, compliments of Oasis Duplicating, to be distributed to top personnel of several major record labels, publishing companies, web sites, and regional radio stations.

The judges are local and regional industry representatives from Washington, D.C., Baltimore and the Virginia area. Past judges represented BMI, Warner Chappell Music, EMI, Sony Music, Polygram Music, Opryland Music, Sony Tree, regional producers, promoters and radio station personalities.
