Review: Moment of Silence

by Mike Brennan April 12, 2005
1.5 / 5 Stars

Leading a SWAT Team through New York City in 2044, players of Moment of Silence enter into a futuristic world of a mystery/action video game. The musical score for this game was composed by Tilman Sillescu and Pierre Langer. The score is mostly ambient electronics, with some more rock-influenced cues coming in at the end with additional music composed by Henning and Ingo Nugel. The "Main Titles" for the game present the main theme, which is a brass action motif that resurfaces a few times on the album, oddly enough in two of the Nugels' cues, "To Lunar 5" and "To Bermuda Platform".

Much of the rest of the album is purely electronic. The ambient nature of the music ("Lunar 5 Medical Room", "Bermuda Platform") creates an appropriate soundscape for the game, but is a little slow on album. Cues like "NYC Shadows" include some city-sounding effects, like a subway rushing by; this is a similar approach to what Harry Gregson-Williams used for the bustling streets in Phone Booth. "Bermuda Underwater" appropriately uses muddled ambient electronics and whale sounds for the underwater scene. Overall, the album seems a bit long for the background play music, but some of the musical ideas are interesting.
