This week The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 141 scores from eligible feature-length motion pictures released in 2017 are in contention for nominations in the Original Score category and 70 original songs from 61 movies are eligible in the Original Song category. Opening in theaters nationwide this week are (with music by): Downsizing (Rolfe Kent), Father Figures (Rob Simonsen), The Greatest Showman (John Debney & Joseph Trapanese), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (Henry Jackman) and Pitch Perfect 3 (Christopher Lennertz). Expanding nationwide are Darkest Hour (Dario Marianelli) and The Shape of Water (Alexandre Desplat).
