Sony Music Masterworks, in partnership with Sparks & Shadows Records, today releases Outlander: Blood of My Blood (Season 1 Original Series Soundtrack) by Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning composer Bear McCreary. Available everywhere now, the album features an original score written by McCreary for the new prequel series from Sony Pictures Television. Outlander: Blood of my Blood debuts today on STARZ and will premiere new episodes every Friday.

Having scored all eight seasons of the original Outlander series, which often required McCreary to evolve and expand his music to encompass the show's changing setting and time period, the composer once again plots an original soundscape expertly tailored to the new prequel. A lushly cinematic score rooted in Celtic instrumentation and tradition, McCreary crafted two new themes for the two main love stories at the center of the show, blending orchestral power with emotional movements to capture the series' timeless romance. McCreary also enlisted the vocal talents of acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriter Julie Fowlis, who performs on three of the album's tracks, including the series' powerfully moving main title theme.

Of the score, composer Bear McCreary says, "From my earliest days scoring Outlander, executive producer Ronald D. Moore's visionary adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's acclaimed fantasy series, I savored the opportunity to compose lush melodies for bagpipes, fiddle, bodhrán frame drum, and other Scottish instruments. Now, a decade later, I am thrilled to further explore these vibrant musical colors with executive producer Matthew B. Roberts, as I score the series' exciting new prequel tale, Outlander: Blood of my Blood.

For this score, I wrote two vivid new themes for the twin love stories of Jamie's and Claire's parents, and I also brought back familiar thematic ideas from the original series. Perhaps most exciting of all, I was honored to collaborate with famed Scottish singer-songwriter Julie Fowlis on several tracks, including the series' haunting main title theme, 'Outlander - For My Love That's Lost.'

I am eager for Outlander fans around the world to experience this series, the continuation of a project that has been a source of passion for me for the last decade."
